Garrett Rolls out SmartScan™ Integrated Health and Safety Screening Solution
Garland, Texas (February 8, 2021) —Garrett Electronics, a design and manufacturing company specializing in security metal detectors, announced that it is now shipping orders of its popular new touchless SmartScanThermal Imaging system.
SmartScan is offered as either an add-on accessory for new Garrett PD 6500i or MZ 6100 walk-through metal detectors, or it can be retrofitted into previously-installed Garrett detectors. “We are very pleased to be adding this exciting capability to our walk-through metal detector products,” said Garrett CEO Steve Novakovich. “Never before has thermal screening been so fast and easy for Garrett Metal Detectors customers.”
Garrett SmartScan technology allows body temperature measurements to be taken simultaneously with metal detector security screening. “This allows your security checkpoint to become an efficient, multi-functional, no-contact portal using artificial intelligence,” said Garrett Senior Product Manager Aaron Arellano.
Among the early users of this new technology is the City of Fort Worth, Texas, which installed new Garrett’s SmartScan walk-through metal detectors at Fort Worth City Hall and the adjacent A. D. Marshall Public Safety Building. In a press release issued December 2, City Marshal Philip J. Swift explained that the SmartScan system was designed to create a “positive flow” and to speed up the screening process, making the Fort Worth buildings more accessible and safer for everyone.
SmartScan has also been installed in other cities to protect arenas, K-12 schools, manufacturing facilities, and office buildings.

Garrett Announces Acquisition
Garland, TX, October 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Garrett Electronics, a design and manufacturing company specializing
in sport and security metal detectors, announced the acquisition of certain assets of White’s Electronics.
White’s, who had been in business since 1950 as a premier manufacturer of metal detection products, announced the suspension of operations on June 18, 2020 in a memo to its dealers. White’s founders, Kenneth and Olive White, built their business the same way Garrett’s founders, Charles and Eleanor Garrett, did, by innovating and committing to producing high quality products in the United States. White’s current principals, Kenneth R. and Mary White, are choosing to fold the White’s legacy in with Garrett Metal Detectors as a way of extending their “Made in the USA” tradition.
Garrett CEO Steve Novakovich commented, “The White family and the Garrett family have had a high level of respect for one another as competitors in the sport market for decades. Now we at Garrett are proud to combine our respective legacies as Garrett continues on as the premier American metal detector company.”
The transaction includes White’s trademarks, intellectual property, tooling, and other assets. It does not include White’s real estate in Oregon or Scotland. Garrett intends to rigorously defend all of White’s trademarks, patents, and other IP wherever infringement may occur.
Novakovich continued, “Garrett recognizes that the White’s brand has a loyal following in the US and around the world. We are pleased to welcome those customers to Garrett, and we hope we can earn your future business.”

ACE Apex Shipping Update!!!
Garrett CEO Steve Novakovich shares some exciting news on the new Garrett ACE Apex multi-frequency metal detector.
March 24, 2020
To our valued partners,
Due to the spread of the coronavirus, local officials in Dallas County have instituted a Shelter in Place order as a preventative measure which will require Garrett to close our production facility effective midnight, March 23. The order states that it will be in effect for a period of two weeks.
While this limits some important activities at Garrett, including manufacturing operations, I am pleased to announce that our diligent preparations over the past few weeks were designed to mitigate the impact of a shutdown period. The Garrett team’s efforts have positioned us to continue to support our customers and key internal processes and initiatives during the shutdown period from remote locations. Some of these capabilities are:
- Shipping of finished goods from our European warehouse
- Limited shipping of finished goods from our Garland warehouse
- All aspects of Customer Service
- Phone-based Technical Support
- Product Development activities
- Sales and Marketing
- Finance and Accounting
In short, we will spend the shutdown period continuing to support our customers, planning for the launch of an exciting new product, and doing design and development work to build for the future.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, our valued customers and partners, and we welcome your calls and inquiries in the midst of a challenging environment.
Thank you for being part of our world. We’re here for you—today and in the future.
