The brass plate discovery submitted by Bradley D. of Mebane, North Carolina wins my March 2011 Favorite Find. With his Ace 250 at 5 inches deep, Brad recovered this civil war era brass plate manufactured by the Farrel, Herring, & Co., a manufacturer of the best safes during this time. Although the safe was nowhere to be found, the plate itself is in very good condition, with interesting ornate designs. The plate is 6 inches wide, 5 inches tall, and weighs 5 pounds! How it was separated from the safe is a mystery.
