My favorite International Find for October 2011 is the set of 8th century BC Celtic Bracelets discovered by Simon R. from Zgornja Polskava, Slovenia. Using his AT Pro in an old forest in Slovenia in a Celtic village, Simon recovered this set of 7 bracelets at a depth of 40 cm (15.75 inches).

Simon said, “The signal of the AT Pro was very good, but because of the depth a little bit quiet. I am very happy that I bought the AT Pro. Thanks for such an excellent device”.

Congratulations Simon R. for sharing your ancient discovery with Garrett!

My favorite find for September 2011 is the sentimental family ring found by Rene’ C. from Cantanhede, Portugal.

In 1956, Rene’s grandparents married. As a wedding gift, Rene’s grandfather gave to his new wife (Rene’s grandmother) a special gold ring which had been worn for years by his mother who had passed away. A month after the wedding, Rene’s grandmother lost the ring on the farm during harvest time and cried for a long time about losing it.

Rene’ tells us, “After I heard the story, I bought a Garrett Ace 250 metal detector and promised to myself, no matter what, I would find it. One day after 5 months of hard work I found it, not in the land my grandmother told me about, but in a near path. I waited for their wedding anniversary to give it to them. I will remember that day as the most magical day of my life, seeing tears coming down their faces. After that, my life changed in a special way.”

Thank you Rene’ for sharing this loving story with us.

My Favorite International find for August 2011 is a set of seals, consisting of a bronze sealing ring and bronze seal. Centuries ago, these seals were used to stamp and seal official documents in order to authenticate them.

These two objects were discovered by Adam V. from Senica, Slovakia the first day after purchasing the new AT Pro International. They were passed to the Archaeological Museum in Slovakia.

Congrats to Adam V. for discovering these historical seals.

Occasionally, a discovered item will strike a visual scene. In a quest to accurately map out a 1,600-year-old Roman road, relic hunter Thorsten S. headed out with his GTI 2500, armed with the large imaging coil.

After an hour and many cut roots later, Thorsten recovered a complete Roman horseshoe called a hipposandal at 45 cm (18 inches) below the surface. It was in very good condition and fully intact with a ring and hooks to secure it to the hoof of a horse using leather straps rather than nails.

Congrats to Thorsten S. from Bavaria, southern Germany, for discovering the 1,600-year-old Roman hipposandal and for pinpointing a section of a Roman road where journeys had been made for centuries.

I want to pass along my congratulations to our first winner of my International Favorite Find of the Month. He is Howard M. of Ludlow in England. Howard was using his new Garrett EuroACE metal detector when he discovered a hoard of silver coins that appears to date to the late 1500s or early 1600s. The top of the pot containing the coins was 9.5 inches (24 cm) deep. As seen in the photos, the hoard was carefully excavated by officials of the British Museum, who will evaluate the entire contents of the pot in due time.

Congrats to Howard M. for being my first winner and for recovering such a historic cache of English coins!
