Congratulations to our International Favorite Finds winner Joko S. from Indonesia!
Exploring a former Japanese army camp on the island of Indonesia, Joko brought along his Garrett AT Max in hopes of uncovering a piece of World War II history. This site once served as a base for the Japanese Army’s 2nd Area Forces, and after Japan’s surrender in August 1945, it became a POW camp for Japanese internees awaiting repatriation back to Japan. While searching the area, the AT Max locked onto a strong signal that sounded like silver. At about 30 cm deep, he uncovered an incredible relic: a silver signet ring inscribed with a Japanese family name!
He writes, “Objects like this may have been used for identity or official marking purposes, similar to the stamps and seals used in Japanese correspondence and military administration. Holding it in my hand, I could not help but wonder who it belonged to and what stories it carried from those final days of the war. A powerful reminder that history is still beneath our feet, waiting to be found. Thank you, Garrett, for creating tough and dependable tools that help bring forgotten history back to light.”
