Congratulations to our US Favorite Finds winner Ryan T. from Texas!

In early April, Ryan got permission to detect a mid-1800s one-bedroom home in Castroville, Texas, once owned by an early settler family named Steinle. The property sits on half an acre with an original well, and he had high hopes for what might be hiding there. Most of the morning was bowls, farm trash, and the usual old-homeplace signals. Before leaving, he decided to make one final sweep around the big oak tree in the middle of the property.

Then came his last target of the day……

It rang up like gold, but he tried not to get my hopes up because he had never found gold or silver before. About four inches down, a brooch popped out of the plug, shining like it had been dropped yesterday. My hands were shaking the moment he saw it! Ryan said, “Who would have guessed my first gold would come from a used Garrett Ace 250 I bought at a garage sale.
