Congratulations to our US Favorite Finds winner Steve S. from Texas!
Steve went metal detecting in a town established in the late 1800s after discovering oil. They built a railroad that ran through the town, and he decided to take his ACE 250 out there to see what he could find. He dug up modern coins and trash but eventually got a clean signal. He dug it up and knew it was not a coin, but it looked like a crusty doorstop, so he threw it in his pouch and kept swinging. When he got home, he did some cleaning on the find and saw “Citizens Nation Bank” on it and realized he found a wax seal stamp! He writes, “ turns out after joint research with the Gladewater and Longview Historical Society, I belonged to EJ Everett, the owner of the first bank in Gladewater, Texas that later opened the Citizens National Bank in Longview, Texas. All this happened in the early 1900’s. The stamp was found a block away from the home of bank owner Everett who daily took the train to his bank that he opened in Longview. It’s believed this stamp was in his possession and lost at the railroad track at one point.”
