My International favorite find is the Gold Pendant from the Viking Age, found by Martin N. from Denmark with his AT Pro.
Martin’s Story: “Hereby my best finds of all, it started with I went and searched on my best field, when I started to think, how cool it could be to find a viking gold ring! I had found more viking finds in the field before. Don’t know if the gods listened to my dream, but 10 metres longer I got a scale 45-50 target id. began to dig, and something goldish came out! My heart was pounding. a ring it was not, however, a gold pendant from the viking age!!! Over 1000 years old. My life’s find was accordingly done. Regards, Martin from Denmark!”

My second international favorite find is the 1797 Cartwheel penny, found by Jason D. from the UK with his GTI 2500.
Jason’s story: “Iv’e been a serving British soldier since 1994, while walking around the old RAF Brampton site Where I live which is being redeveloped after being sold off. It is also a stones throw from The “SAMUEL PEPYS” House. I got speaking to some Archaeologists who where doing pre development history surveys, they kindly allowed me to bring my GTI 2500 down as they had found a number of Roman finds including 7 kilns. I found a few barely recognisable coins and clothing pins but also I found 2 coins one of which was a 1797 Cartwheel penny(12-13 inch deep and the best signal I ever had) in rather good condition after a short clean up at home. I also found a Henry VII AD 1495-1504 Silver Groat. I had barely been there 5 minutes before finding the coins, the archaeologists spent most of the time arguing over who was taking the next turn with my machine. I defy anyone say that’s not Great advertising for the Garrett Range ......Big smiles . Fabulous machine my GTI 2500 I love it.”

My international favorite find for January 2017 is the 1902 Veldpond coin, discovered by Michael O. from South Africa with his Ace 250.
Michael’s story: Found this coin in muddy clay area by a fountain on farm where there were boerwar camps and skirmishes. Coin was 6 inches embed in muddy clay in natural fountain. I was many times on this spot and got signal of aluminum but was late in day, so I left it, but afterwards bothered me what it was. While looking at youtube videos about calibration and where gold sometimes hit with some type of mineralation in ground even bothered me more. Then I went back struggling to get same spot again. After 2 months, I dug the ultimate bucket lister 1902 Veldpond. Shows you dig and dont leave it. Check your holes again and the hard ones keep your coil to the soil and keep going. Greatest find ever! Great fun, great rewards, thanx a million Garrett is great.

My second international favorite find for January 2017 is the Sydney Mint 1861 Half Sovereign Gold Coin, discovered by John R. from NSW Australia with his Ace 250.
John’s story: I have been trying different spots around town and am starting to have more and more success with the Ace 250. The spot I had planned on searching was hosting a game of cricket so I decided to find a new place. After an hour of driving up and down back track I found a school that I hadn't been to before and got to work. Within two minutes of being there I pulled up the most beautiful gold coin I had ever seen, a 1861 Sydney Mint half Sovereign! I continue to search the area with nothing to compare, and as it heated up to the high fourties I threw in the towel and went home to research my newest treasure.

My third international favorite find for January 2017 is the 8th Century Irish Annular Brooch, discovered by Seán M. from Ireland with his AT Pro.
Seán’s story: I was detecting on quite a new permission on the grounds that I help try to find a lost engagement ring. I had been out for around 3 hours with about an hour of light left. I hit a faint but solid signal and started to dig. With the ground quite wet it was hard to make out what the fragment was. As I always do, I checked the hole again using my Pro Pointer and another fragment came out followed by more.
Once home I washed off the loose dirt and soon realised I had something special; a Celtic brooch. And amazingly all of it was there! It’s late 8th Century in date with gold gilding along the Celtic designs and a piece of gold leaf just visible under the dirt. The eyes of the beasts are likely to be red glass. It is currently in the hands of the National Museum for recording and preservation. A beautiful piece of Irish history saved for future generations.

My international favorite find is the Copper Real’ Coin of 1813, found by Jose L. from Puebla, Mexico with his Ace 350.
Jose’s story: Currency of 8 years of the year of 1813. The currency was issued by orders of General Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon for its movement of fight for the independence of Mexico. The word “SUD” meant southern army.

My third favorite find is the Ancient Gold Ring 5.29 Grams, found by Yaacob O. from Malaysia with his AT Gold.
Yaacob’s story: Kota Tinggi (High Castle) where I was living is a capital of Johor State from 1528 till 1699. By using my Garrett AT Gold, I recover many ancient coins made from tin, copper, silver and gold. Even the jewels also can be found down deep under the mud at the river banks. Last Saturday, I went for hunting at the river banks, and after dig and take out the mud, I found the original soil with some of broken porcelain. After dig 3 feet down, Garrett AT Gold detects the target. But this time, the ID is higher than tin or gold coin (normally tin and gold coin the id from 45 to 56 but this time is 61. I slowly take out the soil and finally it’s in my hand. I have to segregate the soil careful and use 5"X 8" coil to find the object because I don’t have the Pro Pointer. I shout “Gold ring”. Ancient gold ring was recovered and that’s why I choose Garrett AT Gold because it can be use in any situation and fully waterproof and can be using even in the mud!

My favorite international find for November 2016 is the 18k Gold Ring 18 Grams, found by Steve B. from Ontario, Canada with his AT Pro International.
Steve’s story: It was a cool morning on November 27th started an early hunt at 7:00am just as the sun was coming up on a cool fall morning. I was swinging at an old school built 50 years ago which I have never searched before.
After searching and finding a couple silver dimes and lots of clad I ended up searching around the soccer nets which is my favourite spots to search as I have found lots of jewellery in the nets.
I was swinging beside the net and got a high tone around 84-86 ID signal on my AT Pro which I thought was just the metal post on the soccer net so I pin pointed the signal and dug my plug about 12" from the post. After flipping the plug I found a monster Aztec ring still in the plug around 7" deep. I took a picture of the ring in the plug wiped it off and threw it in my pouch thinking it was a junker ring.
After the 8 hour hunt I cleaned off the ring and saw that it was reddish colour and had a stamp on the back marked 18k. I gave it a salt and vinegar bath which removed the reddish colour then gave it a baking soda and water paste rub to clean it up more. This is when I noticed the colour changed to yellow goldfish tone. I posted it on the Garrett Facebook page where I had mixed reviews from other detectorists telling me it’s fake or it’s real and gold can tarnish.
I had my doubts so I went and took it to my jeweller and had it acid tested for gold and sure enough it tested positive for 18k gold! I was shocked he offered me $500 cash for the ring on the spot but I refused to sell it but instead paid $20 to get it polished up lol.
I later looked up the melt value and based on the weight of the ring at 17.4 grams it’s worth between $700-750 CDN. This is such a weird but amazing find due to the discolouration of the ring coming out of the ground which must have been there for 50-60 years to tarnish this way. 18k is 75% gold mixed with 25% copper so I’m guessing that’s why it had that colour to it. Anyways this is the biggest gold ring I have ever found in my years of metal detecting so I hope you enjoy my story and the pictures ! I am keeping the ring and getting it resized so I can wear it proudly and share my story with other detectorists I meet. Thanks for reading and happy hunting!

Gary’s story: At the beginning of the November me and a friend were on some permission we have had for a few years. The fields had gone very quiet, but this year the farmer decided to deep plough one of them, so when the time was ready we were out there. The rain was coming down very heavy. We had been in the field about a hour and thinking of calling it a day when suddenly pinged a lovely sweet tone of around 70. I dug down 4 or 5 inches, AT Pro-Pointer ready, and in a piece of hard orange subsoil there it was. At first I thought it was a button. What a lovely surprise when I realized it was a Celtic gold stater! First gold I have had. From a tribe local to me over 2000 years old. Amazing. Been working with the Garrett AT Gold for about 3 years, had some really lovely finds. What a great machine. Happy hunting out there folks. Gary

My international favorite finds for October 2016 are the 87 German War Helmets - Wehrmach Luftwaffe, found by Dag B. from Norway with his AT Gold.
Dag’s story: “I have during 2016 gained great interest in WW2 and search for militaria. I think it is particularly Interesting to search the old German camps. One day late in September, I searched within a place I had been many times before. This is a former camp where the German air force Luftwaffe had a large base. Here I had previously found some medals, numerous coins, a few helmets, and other German equipment.
I registered a weak signal as I first interpreted as garbage. I listened for a moment on the sound, and came close to not dig. It was an uneven tone with ID from 55 to 82. Yet I decided that I wanted to know what kind of rubbish it was that made this particular sound. I had to dig deep before I hit the metal, which was the top of a helmet. That really made me surprised. I had found helmets before, but they all responded in a much more clean sound. When the first helmet was up, I realized that there was more than one helmet in this hole.
After two hours I had found 87 German helmets from Wehrmacht Luftwaffe. The German helmets had been gathered together in May 1945, when Englishmen took command of the camp. The helmets were probably buried by the Germans themselves. As far as I know this could be the largest number of german helmets that are ever found with metal detector in Norway.”

Fanel’s story: “This year, in March, I made in Brasov, in Romania, an exceptional discovery. I found a place with overlapping eras starting from the Neolithic era to La Tene. What was surprising was the discovery of two nose rings:
Gold ring - dimensions: D 27 mm, Gr. 4 mm - Weight: 15 g. Silver ring - dimension: D 30 mm, Gr. 4 mm - Weight: 11 g.
These two rings were analyzed by archaeologists and dated as belonging to the Early Bronze Age specific objects - 3500 years BC.”

Wilfred’s story: “Yesterday we had the great Garrett rally here in Lippenhuizen, the Netherlands. Around 600 people joined the hunt, 4 gold findings in total. Prior to the rally there was a autographing session with KG and Ringy. They were participating in the rally too. I let them sign my AT Pro and took a picture of us. Afterwards they gave me a lucky coin. Man did that coin bring me luck or what!
In the second rally of the day I get a solid 62 on my AT, a piece of lead was my first thought. After digging it out, it turned out to be a very rare gold dutch ducat of 1755 with a little stamp on it. I was completely stunned and in disbelief. I checked again, it was really laying in my hand and I shouted "GOLD". KG and Ringy were very close by, so they start running towards me with the camera crew on their tails. They congratulated me with my find and the crew filmed everything. So with a little luck I’m in an episode.
That’s the story about how the lucky coin from the diggers brought me luck. Now, the day after I still can’t wipe the smile off my face.”

My fourth international favorite find is the 200 B.C. Roman Silver Coin, found by Tomaz K. from Slovenia with his Ace 250.
Tomaz’s story: “On a foggy Saturday morning my goal was to find some military stuff (on the fields near my home) left behind by the German forces that surrendered when the WW2 was over. The location I have picked this time is now agricultural surface where farmers grow corn. Together with my Garrett Ace 250, my faithful companion, I was pretty sure that I’d be spending a nice Saturday in fresh air.
The last hole I dug when already on the way back to my car was not very different. Or so I thought. What seemed like the ordinary bottle cap turned out to be the bottle cap from the very first year that Cockta, well known soda manufacturer from Slovenia, started its production. And that’s not all. When I looked closely, I saw something inside. And I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was a silver Roman coin circa 2200 years old. I was super super excited and I did my happy dance (hopefully no one was watching. :)) The coin and the cap have a very special place in my collection, although they’re probably not worth much to someone else, for me they are priceless.”

Tomaz’s story: “On a foggy Saturday morning my goal was to find some military stuff (on the fields near my home) left behind by the German forces that surrendered when the WW2 was over. The location I have picked this time is now agricultural surface where farmers grow corn. Together with my Garrett Ace 250, my faithful companion, I was pretty sure that I’d be spending a nice Saturday in fresh air.
The last hole I dug when already on the way back to my car was not very different. Or so I thought. What seemed like the ordinary bottle cap turned out to be the bottle cap from the very first year that Cockta, well known soda manufacturer from Slovenia, started its production. And that’s not all. When I looked closely, I saw something inside. And I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was a silver Roman coin circa 2200 years old. I was super super excited and I did my happy dance (hopefully no one was watching. :)) The coin and the cap have a very special place in my collection, although they’re probably not worth much to someone else, for me they are priceless.”

4 years I had so many fantastic moments with my Garrett detector, many things to find… This time I was walking around in the wood near by our house when I get a signal. I was working on about half an hour and I get the two old bottles out from the ground. There were nicely in rubber tubing. Two bottles fully with old coins!! 2100 pieces, never used hungarian forint from 1950! I’m sure directly from the mint. My 4 children were so prod of me! Many thanks Mr. Garrett, made me so happy!”

My international favorite finds for August 2016 are the 18 British Columbia gold nuggets, found by Ken L. from Canada with his AT Pro International.
Ken’s story (edited): “Hi! I’ve had my Garrett AT Pro for a year and a half. Although I used to work for a gold exploration company in a historic gold rush area of British Columbia, I moved away long before I had this detector to use on a placer claim with nuggets. I recently visited the area while on a camping trip. A good friend had arranged permission for us to metal detect on an acquaintance’s placer claim – a spot where the owner is making a living from the gold, digging up nuggets, despite 150 years of miners digging on what is now his ground. The owner mines using an excavator and its bucket leaves scraps of gold bearing dirt behind. Too little dirt for him to care about, so he was happy to let us look at the ground he was done with. It was a very good day. By far my best day metal detecting, and far more gold than I had ever dug up prospecting on my spare time with a pan or a sluice. 18 pieces. 22.7 grams total. The largest being a quarter ounce (7.8g), the smallest being an amazingly small 0.14g. Even the smallest piece gave a distinct signal with an ID of 53. The AT Pro behaved great, and my Pro-Pointer AT sped up the process so I could cover more ground, and re-cover some of the ground once I really knew how the AT Pro was responding to gold.The AT Pro made it easy. Roger’s story: “All hunted-out, you say? Me and my AT Pro International beg to differ! As I was leaving a local park I ran into a fellow detectorist. We talked for a few minutes and I showed him my finds for the day. He told me I was lucky to have found the few modern clads I had. Everyone had worked this park, he said, and it was pretty well all hunted-out. I headed home while he unpacked his equipment to “play around” a bit. I admit to being a bit disillusioned. With the increasing popularity of metal detecting I would have to think that most all accessible areas would be hunted-out with little chance of finding anything more than a few pennies. Then I flipped through the Garrett brochure and re-read the AT Pro International’s “Bring Hunted-Out Sites Back to Life”. The next morning I packed up my AT Pro International (armed with the 5x8 DD coil) and headed back to this “hunted-out” park. Not more than 15 minutes into the hunt and I locked onto my first find: a 10k gold woman's cluster ring with a 13 diamond setting! Ivans stated, “Hi. My name is Ivans and I am from Latvia. I went with friends on a long-known place with local diggers. Finds there have been little, but what else could be found? I had bought a Garrett AT Pro and walked near the car and adjusted the settings. When among the signals from the nails and other debris which repulsed the desire of other diggers, I heard a pleasant bell tone. I was curious and decided to dig up the signal. I can only say WOW and I immediately lost my voice. :) It turned out that this is only part of the signal. The excavated soil revealed glittering coins. Many coins. As it turned out, there were 203 silver coins of the first Republic of Latvia. Coins of 1, 2 and 5 lats. More than 2 kg of silver coins. It was really very surprising and unexpected discovery. My best discovery I found with Garrett AT Pro.”

A few minutes into an interesting signal, I dig a nice piece of colonial spur, some modern ammunition, and an interesting deep signal. I draw out a clod of earth, again broadening and deepening and I see … my first impression is “this is a joke …can not be true” a large gold shield! Brushed some dirt off. My hands were shaking. 8 escudos, 1788. It’s impossible to describe the joy of discovery, called my friends, traveling photos and conversations that happened … we name it “Scarface” affectionately as a plow or some machinery to work the land passed over leaving her loveless mark. hehe. My first gold coin … and currency!”

Now I have a great passion and contact history. I will collect money for a higher model of the detector and it will, of course, be the detector from Garrett.”

My favorite international find for June 2016 is the Gold Quarter Noble of Henry VI, discovered by Ian H. from the U.K. with his EuroAce.
Ian’s story: (edited) “I have been metal detecting for over 30 years and bought my EuroAce after the machine appeared in a featured article in Searcher magazine in 2011. Since then I’ve had an amazing variety of finds dating from Iron Age through Bronze Age, Roman, right through Anglo Saxon and Medieval to the present day. In all those years though, the find that has eluded me has been a gold coin, that is, until May of this year when I was detecting a virtually barren field in Yorkshire when I had a clear ringing bell tone signal that is a sign of a good find with the Euroace. I scooped over the topsoil and there, shining in the sunlight, was a little yellow disc. I could hardly believe what I was seeing. When you've searched for something for so long it takes a while to recognise it for what it is when you see it. I called my detecting buddies over and, yes, not only had I found a gold coin but had come up with the Holy Grail of gold coins, a Hammered Gold coin. On my return home I submitted find spot details and photographs to the PAS (Portable Antiquities Scheme). The coin has been identified as a Hammered gold quarter noble, early issue of Henry VI based on the initial mark, a lis on the obverse and in the central panel on the reverse. The coin has been double struck and dates from 1422-1431 AD. This is a rare and valuable find.”

I always find interesting relics in this sector, but today I found an old particularly interesting ring with the image of the virgin Mary of the Rosary of Saint Nicholas. It was at a depth of 25 cm, but the signal was exceptionally clear. It was very exciting to unearth something so beautiful with so much history.”

There was quite a pile as I had to dig down 6 feet. Unexpectedly I began to get some really good signals, to which I pinpointed 6 sliver roman coins, one of which is Mark Anthony 32-31 B.C. and various dates. Then to my amazement the glint of yellow, which turned out to be a very rare roman gold coin, Vitellius A.D 69 in mint condition! I could not believe what i was seeing. I have been detecting for a few years now with the Garrett AT Pro and it did the job. The coins are presently in hands of the British Museum as the coins are classed as treasure and you have to declare them in the UK. This may I say is my SUCCESS! story.”

My third international favorite find for May 2016 is the Ancient Silver Jewelry, 145g, discovered by Cristian H. from Romania with his AT Pro International.
Cristian’s story: (edited) “This wasn’t the first time to be in the area. We have been many times and we found a few WW2 relics. But while we stopped to eat something on the right side of the forest road I was testing ground balance and adjusting some of the settings. And while swinging the metal detector I had a high signal between 80 and 83 like most aluminium trash, and I was 100% it was a soda can. I almost decided not to dig but my brother told me if I’m not digging he will :D, so I started digging. After removing the first layer of soil I saw something grey but a little bit shiny on the edges. This was the first object from that pit and it was a silver bracelet. It was a little bit bent and had some cracks due to its location on the road just where the tires of forest vehicles are going. All the pressure over the years affected the relic. After digging out the first object I checked with my metal detector if there is any signal left and it was still strong and about the same value. Just under the bracelet were another two this time, one broken into three pieces and one still intact, but that wasn’t all. About 20 cm away from the edge of the road again, I had a high signal that was the cherry on the cake. Two beautiful “ring” necklaces also silver that were coiled for transportation and were maybe lost on the road. After taking photos, saving GPS coordinates, we called the authorities to pass all the relics to the archaeologists legally. We had a 72 hour period to admire the relics, take photos, and we also made a short video to show the treasure to the world by sharing it on the internet. In total were five pieces, two necklaces 40 and 60g of silver and three bracelets 13, 14 and 16g of silver. In total about 145g of silver! We cannot date these objects precisely but we think are 1800-2000 years old and are still waiting for the archaeologists answer for a more accurate dating. This treasure will be included on the list of National Heritage Goods of Romania and hopefully will be displayed in a local museum after classification and cleaning. Thank you Garrett for reliable and high quality metal detectors that serve all over the world with great success stories.”

Cristian’s story: (edited) “This wasn’t the first time to be in the area. We have been many times and we found a few WW2 relics. But while we stopped to eat something on the right side of the forest road I was testing ground balance and adjusting some of the settings. And while swinging the metal detector I had a high signal between 80 and 83 like most aluminium trash, and I was 100% it was a soda can. I almost decided not to dig but my brother told me if I’m not digging he will :D, so I started digging. After removing the first layer of soil I saw something grey but a little bit shiny on the edges. This was the first object from that pit and it was a silver bracelet. It was a little bit bent and had some cracks due to its location on the road just where the tires of forest vehicles are going. All the pressure over the years affected the relic. After digging out the first object I checked with my metal detector if there is any signal left and it was still strong and about the same value. Just under the bracelet were another two this time, one broken into three pieces and one still intact, but that wasn’t all. About 20 cm away from the edge of the road again, I had a high signal that was the cherry on the cake. Two beautiful “ring” necklaces also silver that were coiled for transportation and were maybe lost on the road. After taking photos, saving GPS coordinates, we called the authorities to pass all the relics to the archaeologists legally. We had a 72 hour period to admire the relics, take photos, and we also made a short video to show the treasure to the world by sharing it on the internet. In total were five pieces, two necklaces 40 and 60g of silver and three bracelets 13, 14 and 16g of silver. In total about 145g of silver! We cannot date these objects precisely but we think are 1800-2000 years old and are still waiting for the archaeologists answer for a more accurate dating. This treasure will be included on the list of National Heritage Goods of Romania and hopefully will be displayed in a local museum after classification and cleaning. My fourth international favorite find for May 2016 is the Bronze Age Axe Head 1500-1800 BC, discovered by David B. from the U.K. with his AT Pro.
David’s story: “This was from a permission that has not been too good for me. I was finding the usual workers buttons, lead bag seals, and the odd coin but you never know what’s under the dirt. This was a farmers field that recently had the plough through it, so I had a day off work and decided to go detecting. After many pieces of rusty iron and nails I got a belter of a signal near the end of the day and dug down. OMG I said to myself I think I know what this is and carefully put it away and made my way across the field, taking it out every 10 steps just to look at it. I feel so lucky to find this Bronze Age Axe head as it does not come up every day and its all down to my AT PRO, thank you Garrett detectors.”
