WINNER #1
My U.S. favorite find for May 2016 is the 1882 Double Eagle Gold Coin, found by Frank M. from California with his AT Pro.

Frank’s story: (edited) “I’ve been working this old mining camp in northern California for about a year now. I’ve found lanterns, harmonica reeds, clock parts, horseshoes, etc. I dug square nails all over. Something was there at some point! I’m ignoring the iron and going slow when beep! A high tone. Quarter I thought, right next to the growl of iron. So i dug. Boom! I saw the edge and it was bright yellow. I panicked a little and grabbed my phone to document it. My phone wouldn’t work. Duh! I still had my gloves on. My touchscreen phone doesn’t like gloves. I knew that, but my head was racing. Finally got a picture of a half dug gold coin. Then i dug it up. 20 dollar gold piece! My first gold coin and she is the biggest one! I didn’t dig anymore and left quickly to get home. I’m going back next week. It’s been five days and can barely sleep.”

My third U.S. favorite find is the 10k Gold Ring, 45 diamonds, found by John W. from TX with his AT Pro.

John’s story: “I struck gold in California. On a recent trip to visit my ailing father, I was able to take a little time to do a little dirt fishing. I went to a park that I used to take my kids to nearly 30 years ago. After about an hour, the AT Pro sang out with a VDI in the 60s. 4 inches down, this beauty emerged. My first gold ring in 3 years of detecting.”

WINNER #4
My fourth U.S. favorite find is the Catholic Charm, found by Juan P. from Garland, TX with his AT Pro.

Juan’s story: “On May 24th, 2016, after volunteering to deliver food to an elementary school, I had about 2 hours to detect and I decided to do a permission hunt. I was able to get a yes after asking two homes. A man in his 80’s came to the door with his caretaker. I explained what I was doing and he was quick to say yes, that I could keep anything I found. After finding a hand full of clad, I decided I would get my last signal which came in at 76. To my surprise, it was a charm made of copper with a coating of silver. I pulled it from the plug and decided I would show it to the elderly man. As he looked at the charm he begun to tear up and replied, This belonged to my wife, she lost it about 5-6 years ago, asked where I had found it, and I walked him over to the spot. He told me that the charm and a necklace were given to her. In 1960, during the birth of their first child, his wife had fallen ill and a priest had come to pray for her. The charm was gifted to her and she wore it all her life, till the day it was lost. He told me he had lost her 1 year and 16 days ago. He said he counts every day. At that moment, as I went to shake his hand, he reached around me to give me a hug. I asked if he would like to have it back. He replied, Very much so if you don’t mind. I told him, It’s yours. He then put it in his front shirt pocket and said, it will be by my heart until I can make it a necklace again and wear it till I pass. He invited me into his home, and above his entertainment center sat a picture of his wife, a beautiful, happy young lady taken in the 60’s with the charm around her neck. Memories are better than Gold and Silver.”
