WINNER #1
Congratulations to Connor E. for being our international Find of the Month winner! After searching an early 1800s homesite, Connor got a screaming signal on the way back to the car with his AT Pro International.

He shares, "In the hole were two identical disks with very detailed snakes on them; they looked like gold! I took them home and J Three B (Jeremiah) did some research. He discovered that I found a set of solid gold early Victorian Cloak Clasps. These two snakes would join their tails to keep a woman’s cloak closed."

WINNER #1
Congrats to Vaughan’s Favorite Find international contest winner, Jeremy L. from Newfoundland.

Success Story: “We started our walk back to the trail off the field and I searched for that ‘one last target’ on the way. I locked onto a target that sounded so nice. It was fairly consistent in the high 60s but would also jump into the 70s and even 80s a little. ‘This is the one,’ I said. I dug my last target. I removed the top layer of sod and then carved out a nice size chunk of soil with my knife and popped it out. Sitting there almost perfectly was an absolutely stunning one-of-a-kind Love Token/Cufflink made from two gold coins: a $2 Newfoundland and an 1855 $1 US gold coin. We looked at the hole shocked.

“I had hit NL Gold, US gold, and a Love token all in one. I didn’t just hit one gold coin, but 2. The engraving is such a beautiful example. My emotions were so high that I actually ran around the field aimlessly!”

MARCH 2022 WINNER!!!

WINNER #1
My International Favorite Find for March 2022 is the group of Three Ancient Silver B.C. Coins, discovered by Firiceanu C. from Europe with his AT Max.

Firiceanu's story: Hi Garrett Team! Hi Vaughan! I want to share with you one of my favorite findings. On an unusual warm and sunny winter day (almost no winter this year), my friend and I decided to go on a short hunt on a beautiful and full of history forest, near the city! Unfortunately, the part of the forest that is close to the main road is trashy, and usually we don’t explore that part.

But this time, being very impatient, I started my trusted AT Max quickly and in a few meters I have the first signal, weak but constant and on the silver part of the scale. So I decided to dig. First time when I saw it, I was thinking, hmm another small lead seal, but after a quick clean I notice the 2 faces and I realize that I found an ancient coin. A quick research on Google and YES, my first ancient coin, a silver Trihemiobol from Moesia region, Istros, dated between 450–350 BC. YEEEEE.

We keep hunting and after 50–60 meters, near a tree, a strong 89–91 signal. And between the roots of the tree, 2 more big and heavy silver ANCIENT coins. This time Greek Tetradrachms–Phillip II coins dated between 300–200 BC. YEEEEE What a great day!!! The coins now are at the Prahova County History Museum! Thank you and have a great day!

FEBRUARY 2022 WINNER!!!

WINNER #1
My International Favorite Find for February 2022 is the Gold Byzantine Coin, discovered by Peter P. from Europe with his Ace 250.

Peter’s story: I went to a hill, quite far to succeed, but I believed that there could be findings because from that hill there is a beautiful view of the surroundings, which was important for fortifications in ancient times. After I succeeded, I saw a lot of holes. I quickly realized that someone was looking carelessly. I thought I was late but after hiking so much I decided to taste my luck.

I found a few coins and a ring in the first half hour, and then, a gold coin! What a surprise I couldn’t believe! A real Byzantine gold coin solidus Justinian I. The feeling when you find a gold coin is hard to describe, especially when you find it in a location that is already dug up when you know that someone was so close but was unlucky. And who knows how many I skipped. Trust your intuition and never give up. Thank you Garrett ACE 250 :)

WINNER #1
My International Favorite Find for January 2022 is the 3rd century A.D. Gold Roman Coin, discovered by Sergey Y. from Europe with his AT Pro.

Sergey’s success story: Hello dear Garrett team! Once in the fall, there was one amazing and incredible day in my life! It was connected with my Garrett AT PRO and a Roman gold coin I found in the field, at the depth of a spade bayonet. When I first took this find in my hand, I had the impression that I touched a history that was two thousand years long! It’s just great! This coin represents the gold aureus of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus, 3rd century AD. Thank you for really cool and lucky metal detectors! Garrett, best of the best!!

Yours sincerely, Sergey

WINNER #2
My second International Favorite Find for January 2022 is the lot of 14 Silver Roman Coins, discovered by Costache F. from Europe with his EuroAce.

Hello. I went out again with my friends for a detection game. A whole day I wandered the whole forest without special results. On the way to the car I came across a glade with big grass and many rose hip bushes. I had a clear signal...I dug a great discovery...a world of Roman silver! I wiped the coin from the ground and I noticed that it was a republican denarius with the abduction of Sabina. I continued to detect another signal again. I managed to discover 12 Republican denarii from different periods. The next day I went to that place again and I discovered 2 more coins. The feeling is unique. I am very satisfied with my Garrett EuroAce device. I am actually in love with him. Who seeks, finds.

November 2021 WINNER!!!

WINNER #1
My International Favorite Find for November 2021 is the Ceramic Vessel with 75 Ottoman Silver Coins from the 18th Century, discovered by Firiceanu R. from Europe with his AT Max.

Firiceanu’s success story: On Friday, October 23, together with my friend who is also my detection partner, we investigated an area with a forest for a few hours after work. The area was promising, so we decided to start a more thorough prospecting next week. Unfortunately on Monday morning my friend was tested positive for Covid 19. On that day, with sadness in my mind, I decided that after work for relaxation, to go to that area for a short detection of about 2 hours .... and after two holes with garbage at the third signal I discovered this treasure. Initially the signal was strange, just under a young Acacia tree (locust tree). I really thought it was a large iron object, a horseshoe or an axe, because at this signal I had discovered something like this before.

I started digging and when I found the twig of roots under the tree I was about to give up. But the increasingly strong and stable signal of the AT Max made me insist. I ended up digging with a knife because I really couldn’t dig with anything else without risking damaging the tree. When I took out the first piece of pottery and saw some edges that looked like coins, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Unique feelings and immense joy came over me when I realized that I had really discovered a little treasure. These feelings were shared with my friend by phone, and we talked on the phone until I managed to get absolutely everything out of the hole.

Next day, after a night with insomnia, the treasure was taken to the county history museum, just as it was taken out of the ground, without cleaning or peeling the coins, to avoid damaging them. After 2 days I received the first update, that there were 75 silver coins. Now I’m waiting for pictures with them clean and an evaluation of the coins and also more info about them.

My friend is OK, he has an easy form of Covid 19, and in a few days he will be out and soon we will go to find the next treasure!

WINNER #1
My International Favorite Find for October 2021 is the Gold Roman Aureus coin, found by Ruslan S. from Europe with his AT Pro.

Ruslan’s story: Garrett THE BEST! Hello dear and beloved Garrett’s company! I want to share with you my recent find! My Garrett AT Pro found my first Roman gold coin in early October! It was a clear and warm autumn day. I went on a picnic with the family. I also took a metal detector with me. And as it turned out - not in vain! After walking along the neighboring field for only about ten minutes, my AT Pro caught a weak signal underground. A couple of seconds later, a coin fell out of the breast of the earth - an Aureus - 2-3 century BC! When I rubbed it, I just couldn’t believe my eyes! Yes! Yes! Yes! This is a great find! I was immensely happy that day! Thanks Garrett!

SEPTEMBER 2021 WINNER!!!

WINNER #1
My international Favorite Find for September 2021 is the Hoard of 17th Century James 1 and Charles 1 Coins, found by Tom B. from the UK with his Ace 250.

Tom’s success story: Hi, I managed to find a soldiers civil war coin hoard with the Garrett Ace 250 and just wanted to say what a great detector it is. It was 10 gold and 8 silver coins, I was speaking to a guy at Regton's (one of your distributors) at a detecting event and he mentioned to email you. The hoard is mentioned on Regton's website, and few other places online it can be found under Taunton civil war coin hoard. Thanks for your time. Keep up the good work.

From the Somerset County Gazette: Civil War’s soldier’s wages found in Taunton - almost 400 years on. The 18 silver and gold coins uncovered in a garden in Nerrols Farm, Taunton, totaled £5 5s 33⁄4d – 5 1⁄2 months wages for a common soldier in the 17th Century and £450 in today’s value. But the hoard, probably belonging to a Royalist soldier and left during the siege of Taunton in 1645, could fetch thousands of pounds when it is bought by the town’s Museum of Somerset. An inquest, which concluded the coins are treasure, heard how they were found by a young man in October as he took down a tree in his parents’ garden so they could build a workshop. His mother told the hearing in Taunton: “He saw something glistening so he took it out and realised it was a coin. He started to dig deeper and eventually found 18 coins in total.”

The coins – Thirteen from England, four Scotland and one Ireland – date from between 1601 and 1645. It is thought they were possibly stashed in a leather purse, which has since rotted away.

A report from The British Museum says: “The coins belong to the reigns of James I and Charles I and the period they cover and the denominations present are very similar to many other recorded coin hoards from the mid- 17th Century, the period of the English Civil War. They are a highly selected group of good condition, high value coins and do not simply reflect the general coinage in circulation at the time.”

AUGUST 2021 WINNER!!!

WINNER #1
My International Favorite Find for August 2021 is the 17th Century Copper Coins Hoard, discovered by Andrey F. from Europe with his Ace 400i.

Andrey’s success story: The best day of the passing summer. The usual hot weekend in August did not bode well for anything unexpected. I sat on the veranda drinking my morning coffee. Suddenly my friend called. Two hours later, sweating under the last rays of the setting summer sun, we made our way with metal detectors along the vast harvested wheat field. Suddenly, there was a loud bell sound on my Garrett ACE 400i. After sweeping the coil at different angles, I realized that there was something interesting underground! Yes! Love that Garrett bell trill! I started digging. A silhouette of my comrade could be seen in the distance.

Having dug a hole deep into the bayonet of a shovel, the signal became even clearer and stronger! Here’s another half-bayonet, and the shovel hit some kind of vessel! Only one thought flashed through my head - this is a treasure!! And so it was! Yeees! I carefully began to rip up the ground around the find. From the pit, the outlines of a not small clay pot were already visible. It took my breath away. My heart sank, caught my breath a little, and pounded in my chest again. From a pit about 20 inches deep I took out a medieval pot stuffed to the top with 17th century fine copper coins !! This moment cannot be conveyed in words! The feeling of indescribable euphoria, joy, happiness and pride in my favorite metal detector overwhelmed my soul of a search engine on that wonderful day! Garrett!

Thank you for your reliable and so beloved devices! I’m happy :)

The hoard of coins was donated to the Poltava Museum of Local Lore.
